The impact of metal and gemstones mining industries on the environment
Héritage de France® is a jewelry store in Paris specializing in antique, vintage, and pre-owned jewelry. Located at the entrance to the Village Suisse, our store is open to the public, and you are welcome to visit, view, and try on our jewelry without an appointment.
We offer a selection of rings, bracelets, earrings, brooches, necklaces, and pendants chosen for their quality, period, gemstones, and jewelry interest. Pieces presented on our website can also be viewed and tried on directly at our jewelry store.
Our selection spans nearly a century of jewelry design, from pieces dating to the second half of the 19th century through vintage jewelry of the 1980s, as well as more recent pieces and Héritage de France® creations.
Napoleon III jewelry, Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces, antique diamond rings, Tank jewelry from the 1940s, and vintage creations from the 1950s through the 1980s each reflect the styles and jewelry-making techniques of their period.
At Héritage de France®, we distinguish jewelry according to its period.
Antique jewelry primarily refers to pieces made between the second half of the 19th century and the 1940s, including Napoleon III, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Tank jewelry.
Vintage jewelry mainly refers to pieces dating from the 1950s through the 1980s.
More recent or contemporary jewelry generally refers to pieces made from the 1990s to the present day.
The term pre-owned jewelry does not refer to a particular period. It simply indicates that a piece has previously been owned. Antique, vintage, and more recent jewelry can therefore all be pre-owned.
Diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds play an important role in our selection. Their gemological characteristics, cut, proportions, and integration into the design of a piece are carefully considered.
Old-cut diamonds differ from modern brilliant-cut diamonds in their proportions and faceting. Rose cuts, antique cushion cuts, and old European cuts are among the diamond cuts frequently encountered in antique jewelry.
Colored gemstones are examined for their color, transparency, inclusions, cut, and possible treatments. Important stones may be accompanied by a report from an independent gemological laboratory.
The age of a gemstone and the age of the piece in which it is set should always be distinguished.
Part of our selection consists of genuine antique and vintage jewelry. Héritage de France® also creates contemporary pieces, some of which feature diamonds or precious gemstones removed from antique or vintage jewelry that could not always be preserved in their original settings.
These stones are removed, examined, selected, and reset in newly made mountings.
An antique diamond or gemstone reset today remains an antique stone, but the new piece of jewelry is a contemporary creation.
Antique rings and engagement rings represent an important part of our selection. Solitaires, Pompadour rings, three-stone rings, marquise rings, and Art Deco designs may feature diamonds, sapphires, rubies, or emeralds.
An engagement ring may be entirely antique or vintage, or it may be a contemporary creation featuring an antique gemstone.
Choosing a ring involves not only the characteristics of the stone but also the design, proportions, and overall balance of the ring when worn.
All of these rings can be viewed and tried on at our jewelry store in Paris without an appointment.
Héritage de France® provides expertise and appraisal services for antique, vintage, and more recent jewelry directly at our Paris store.
You are welcome to visit without an appointment for a complimentary verbal appraisal. We examine the likely period, construction, hallmarks and signatures, precious metals, diamonds and gemstones, as well as the overall condition of the piece.
A written appraisal may also be prepared upon request as a separate service.
For a large number of pieces or jewelry from an estate, we recommend contacting us in advance so that sufficient time can be dedicated to the examination.
Héritage de France® purchases antique, vintage, recent, signed, gold, and platinum jewelry directly at our Paris store. No appointment is necessary for a small number of pieces.
Before making an offer, we examine each piece to determine whether it has value as jewelry beyond the value of its precious metal. An Art Deco ring, a Tank bracelet, a signed piece, or jewelry set with diamonds or precious gemstones may have a value greater than its gold or platinum content alone.
Pieces valued primarily for their precious metal are assessed according to their fineness, weight, and the current market price of the metal. Their jewelry or commercial interest is also taken into consideration when relevant.
The examination is complimentary, and a firm purchase offer may be made following the appraisal.
